Judas Controversy Set to Explode This Week

With the imminent release of The Da Vinci Code movie, another powerfully controversial religious publication is slated for Thursday, just a week before Easter. It is a new translation of The Gospel of Judas, one of the texts eliminated from the New Testament by Bishop Irenaeus in the 4th century.

The manuscript is particularly offensive to some because it portrays Judas as Jesus’s friend not his betrayer. Like many Gnostic texts it takes a purely spiritual view of the Jesus story, in contrast to the materialist stamp placed on it by the early Roman church.
