Will Yahoo Buy Technorati?
Once again, it’s Technorati takeover time.
Syntagma has covered this almost Aesop-like fable for so long it’s beginning to shape up as an old wive’s tale, or even a tablet of stone.
Except that there are good reasons to suppose this time it will happen. Michael Arrington is on the case … and we all know what that means: stuff is getting seriously serious, approaching the crunch point, in fact.
Michael puts two virtually irrefutable arguments:
1. Yahoo bought Flickr and Del.icio.us, described not as tagging twins, but as part of “tagging triplets”. Guess who the missing dinner guest is …
2. Technorati raised some VC finance a while back: $6.5m. It’s beginning to run out, says Mr TechCrunch whose hand is clearly inside Dave Sifry’s wallet.
Oh, and he quotes Sifry as saying “no comment” to an inquiry about the deal. There’s a general feeling around that “no comment” means “Yes”. Can’t quite figure that one out, but I bow to public opinion.
So, what’s the Syntagma take on this? I must admit, Michael makes a good case, both for the possibility of a deal, and for the necessity for it. Technorati is good enough to be given a safe berth in a big corp. Let’s hope the reliable Yahoo will give them the resources they need to make Technorati great.
We deserve it.
